Material Specialist - BWI

## Material Specialist - BWI Are you someone who enjoys staying busy, working with your hands, and being right where the action is around aircraft? As a Material Specialist at Southwest Airlines, you'll be an essential part of our Technical Operations team, making sure that airplane parts and supplies are exactly where they need to be—when they need to be there. Based out of Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI), this role places you in the hangar and warehouse, where you'll track, organize, and move the materials that keep our fleet flying safely. ### What You'll Do In this role, you'll be responsible for delivering parts and materials to our maintenance teams, building and organizing storage areas, and taking care of shipping, receiving, and inventory tasks. You'll also drive vehicles to pick up and drop off tools and equipment, operate forklifts, and use power tools to assemble shelving and bins. Every shift is different, and you'll learn to move between tasks smoothly—whether that's processing an incoming delivery, filling a parts request, or helping out wherever the day takes you. Your efforts keep our operations running safely and efficiently, and you'll work closely with other Team members who share your commitment to reliability and teamwork. ### What Makes This Role Unique This position is part of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), so pay, schedules, and other job details are determined in partnership with the labor union. Work schedules are based on seniority and can include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. There may be times when mandatory overtime is required to support flight operations, but you'll also have opportunities to trade shifts and find a schedule that fits your life. If you're someone who appreciates structure and benefits from clear agreements, this role offers both. ### What We're Looking For We're seeking candidates who can read and follow instructions, learn and understand procedures, and stay composed in a fast-paced environment. You'll need to be comfortable working in various weather conditions, handling aircraft noise, and working in tight spaces. Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, as is the ability to work well under stress and as part of a team. You should be able to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally, and have the vision and dexterity to perform essential job functions. A valid U.S. Driver's License and the ability to obtain a SIDA badge are required, along with a high school diploma or GED. ### Qualifications & Requirements - Must be at least 18 years of age - Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available) - Ability to successfully complete our training program and evaluation period - Comfort with rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends - Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per company standards - Ability to operate a forklift and use a computer keyboard effectively ### Pay & Benefits This position offers a starting pay of **$20.16 per hour**, with the potential for increases according to the collective bargaining agreement wage scale. You'll also have opportunities for overtime and shift premiums. Beyond that, Southwest provides a benefits package designed to support you and your family: - **Fly for free** on any open seat on Southwest flights—for you and your eligible dependents - **Retirement Savings Plan** with company contributions up to 9.3% of your eligible earnings - **Profit-sharing potential** when Southwest performs well - **Competitive health insurance** for you and your eligible dependents (including pets!) - Health plan coverage that starts from your very first day—you'll have 30 days to enroll, with coverage retroactive to day one If you're ready to bring your energy, attention to detail, and teamwork to a role where every day is different, we'd love to hear from you. Southwest Airlines is an equal opportunity employer, and we're committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
