Progressive Rail, Inc. is seeking a reliable Locomotive Engineer/Conductor in the Elk Grove Village, IL area.

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:

The Locomotive Engineer / Conductor is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains, railcars, and locomotives in accordance with company procedures and applicable federal and state railroad regulations. Team Members in this position must maintain effective communication with railroad personnel, inspect and operate equipment, perform switching activities, maintain required documentation, and work safely in a physically demanding railroad environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret and comply with train orders, signal indications, operating bulletins, and other railroad operating requirements necessary to safely conduct train movements.
  • Communicate effectively by radio, telephone, or other authorized means with locomotive engineers, conductors, customer service personnel, and other railroad team members regarding train movements, stops, delays, track conditions, oncoming trains, switching activities, and other operational information.
  • Operate locomotives and trains safely and efficiently in accordance with applicable Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, company operating rules, train handling requirements, and established procedures.
  • Inspect locomotives, railcars, and train consists as required to verify operational readiness, proper securement, equipment condition, and compliance with FRA and company inspection requirements.
  • Perform required locomotive checks and tests before and during operation and identify equipment defects, abnormalities, or unsafe operating conditions.
  • Diagnose minor locomotive or equipment malfunctions and perform minor maintenance or servicing activities when appropriate and when maintenance personnel are unavailable.
  • Direct, coordinate, and perform switching operations, including coupling and uncoupling railcars, lining switches, applying and releasing handbrakes, securing equipment, and directing train movements through hand signals or radio communication.
  • Protect train movements and employees during switching and other railroad operations by maintaining situational awareness and following applicable operating and safety rules.
  • Complete required administrative and regulatory documentation, including Hours-of-Service records, inspection documentation, incident or injury reports, train documentation, and other operational records.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and company safety rules, policies, and procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), reporting and responding to safety concerns, and exercising sound judgment to take appropriate corrective or protective action.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding equipment, employees, vehicles, track conditions, weather conditions, and other hazards while working in active railroad environments.
  • Perform other railroad operating duties as assigned based upon operational requirements, qualifications, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Engineer / Certified Conductor (preferred)
  • Willing to submit to Pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
